What a spectacular week last week was! 2 art festivals have come to The Fonts of Chorlton and Manchester, the latter was a fantastical affair indeed! If you read our post about ‘Madam Mosey’s Cabinet of Curiosities’ or were lucky enough to come down to see the exhibition you will know it was a plethora of sculpture, painting, drawing, photography and video, all part of the Unit X festival which involved many different bars around Manchester.

If however you did miss the exhibition as it was on for a mere 5 days (or you just fancy remembering the best bits!) Here are some pictures for your enjoyment!

With our maiden year in Chorlton we were very excited to be asked to be part of the Chorlton Arts Festival!

We are fortunate enough to be showcasing the work of local artist Jane Evans (MMU graduate), she will be displaying a piece entitled ‘North Wales Holiday Photos’.

This piece is around 40 different collections of photographs of holidays in North Wales that span a period from 1930-1990. The photographs represent the community of the holidaymaker, they exhibit a sense of belonging to the region though these people have never lived there. 
It raises questions around place history and belonging and what a community can be.

The festival runs from Friday 17th May to Sunday 26th May and is FREE ENTRY! So no excuses, come and absorb some free art and why not have a delicious beer/cider or fine cocktail while you’re at it daaahling!?

There is also a sneaky peak preview night on Thursday 16th May – 7pm to 9pm for those who can’t wait! This night is also free, wonderful stuff!

Work includes sculpture, paint, drawing, photography and video. The exhibition is FREE and open to all!

Opening night is Monday 13th from 6pm and should be quite a spectacle with interactive art to fondle and wall to wall curiosities.
Show runs from Monday 13th – Friday 17th (so don’t miss out!)

Blessed once more with artwork by our friend Laura, this time she is gracing not one but two bars walls!

To the right is her enchanting display at The Font, Fallowfield. A mixed media piece using canvas, bold shapes and wise words. Come and check it out at night time to see the added twinkle!

Those of you who have been part of the Font family for a while will be accustomed to our yearly tote bag release. Each year we find an emerging artist or illustrator to produce a design for our lovely little bag.

As we enter the new academic year why not try and dodge the usual free tat that is dished out and keep your eyes peeled for this little gem. Not only does it look amazing but you can keep things in it, what more could you possibly need!

Regular visitors to The Font will know that among many other things we pride ourselves on having a cocktail range that is not only HUGE but INTERESTING. At this time of year we like to take stock and give praise to the classics (Sex on the Beach, Dr Pepper and Mojitos et al) and look for inspiration for future potions that could reach such dizzying heights of popularity. It’s not an easy task but someone has to do it!

After a few weeks in the lab testing and tasting The Font collective has come up with some refreshing brews to hopefully excite, enthrall and entrance our cocktail loving public. This is a time for new favourites to be born and old friends to be nervous – so take the plunge and try something new today!

A Beginners Guide to our Newbies

Bramble Gin, lemon and sugar with a blackcurrant liqueur top.
Peach Iced Tea Peach schnapps, Triple Sec and Earl grey syrup topped with Lemonade and a squeeze of lime.

Bison Grass Polska Zubrowka vodka is shaken with pear purée, elderflower and plenty of fresh lime.
Hello Sailor Sailor Jerry rum with honey, lemon and apple juice sprinkled with cinnamon.
Marmalade Sidecar Martell brandy is sweetened with marmalade and soured with lemon juice.

Lynchburg Lemonade A bourbon based refresher with triple sec and lemonade with an added apricot Font twist.
Screwball Think old school ice-cream! a blue bubblegum milkshake based cocktail served in a sundae glass.
Bellini Your choice of fruit purée stirred through a glass of Italian prosecco.
